With the motto “It takes a little to make a BIG difference,” a team from KGD Architecture constructed Clifford the Big Red Dog for the 15th annual Canstruction competition. Organized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Northern Virginia Chapter and the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC), the competition showcases the talents of local architecture and engineering firms while celebrating the commitments they have made to support their communities.
Clifford, composed of 7,030 cans, was evaluated and awarded in the category “Most Cans.” When disassembled, more than 3 tons of canned goods used to create Clifford will be donated to AFAC, a non-profit organization that provides supplemental groceries to families in need in Arlington, Virginia.
Canstruction is a charity event and exhibition in which teams of architects, designers, engineers, and contractors compete in magical feats of engineering to create colossal structures made entirely out of canned goods and other nonperishable food items without the use of glue or other adhesives.
